CyberghostVPN Review

CyberGhost is a German-Romanian company that offers VPN services to a vast array of customers. Currently, the tech firm has over 10 million VPN customers across 30 different countries. But how does it stack up? Is it worth joining the millions of other CyberGhost users? Let’s find out.

CyberGhost’s VPN service comes in a range of different flavours. At the entry level, there is a free version of the VPN, which gives you the opportunity to protect a single device at any one moment in time. Keep in mind that free users will have to put up with advertising while surfing the web and speeds may be up to 20 percent slower without a paid subscription. The Premium Version is completely ad-free, supports up to five devices, and offers speeds up to five times faster than the you would get with the free service.

Of course, the main issue with any VPN is security. While CyberGhost makes it clear that its users are agreeing to a small amount of session logging, the company also makes sure your privacy isn’t compromised. You won’t have any personal data stored, and the company has even started using a built-in analytics program – called Piwik – to ensure complete privacy. Other features include an App Protection kill-switch, profile creation, and an Unblock Basic Websites mode if you are travelling to – or live in – a country that doesn’t allow access to the likes of Facebook and Google.

At the moment, you can pick CyberGhost up on Android, iOS, Mac and Windows. But is it worth it?

With CyberGhost, you get great value for your dollar, especially if you go for an annual subscription fee rather than paying monthly. There is a huge array of features, as highlighted above, and exceptional privacy to keep your online life anonymous. The Unblock Streaming option is awesome, too, particularly for fans of entertainment sites like CBS, NBC and Pandora which are typically only available in certain countries.

There really isn’t much to complain about when it comes to CyberGhost and its VPN. However, if there is one chink in the armour, it’s that there is no default Netflix listing in the Unblock Streaming category. Yes, it works – but it can be incredibly slow, and the reality is that Netflix is working very hard to clamp down on VPNs. Also, bear in mind that the interface isn’t quite up to speed with the best-designed VPNs on the market right now.

Bottom Line

If you are looking for an easy-to-use VPN that gives you access to all kinds of content from around the world while staying anonymous, CyberGhost is an excellent choice. The VPN is easy for anyone – beginner or expert – to use, and has been included on the shortlist for pretty much every tech magazine’s “VPN of the Year” award. There are some minor annoyances – such as the Netflix issue – but ultimately, this is an excellent product that will suit most people.
